How acupuncture can help you to become pregnant
-

Regulates hormones and cycle
Regular acupuncture normalizes your menstrual phases and balances key hormones, including FSH, LH, estrogen and progesterone, which eases issues such as irregular cycles or painful periods to best prepare your body for successful conception.
-

Reduces stress and anxiety
Acupuncture improves blood circulation to your ovaries and uterus, while calming your nervous system, lowering stress and cortisol, and triggering the release of endorphins — which supports healthy egg development and restorative sleep.
-

Supports sperm health
Male factors substantially contribute to infertility in about 50% of all cases. We frequently work with partners too, helping improve overall reproductive health and sperm quality as part of a whole-partnership approach to preconception care.
A pathway to easier conception and a healthy pregnancy
Research shows people who combine acupuncture with holistic lifestyle changes report greater fertility awareness and improved wellbeing — and in one study, conceived in about half the time (5.5 weeks, compared to 10.67 weeks for the control group). While every pregnancy journey is different, giving your body time to prepare can pave the way for easier conception and a healthy birth.
Kind Words
A holistic approach to preparing your body for healthy conception and pregnancy
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we often talk about "preparing the palace" before trying to conceive. The palace refers to the uterus, but it's really about creating the healthiest possible environment for pregnancy to begin.
Rather than waiting until you have difficulty conceiving, at our preconception acupuncture San Diego clinic we look at the months leading up to pregnancy as an opportunity to strengthen your body overall, which often improves success rates. That may mean improving blood flow to the reproductive organs, supporting healthy ovulation, regulating your menstrual cycle, nourishing the uterine lining, reducing inflammation, calming the nervous system, and optimizing overall health.
Just as you'd prepare the soil before planting a garden, this is about creating the healthiest foundation for both pregnancy and a growing baby — and we take a generational view, thinking not just about a healthy egg, but the lifelong health of the child conceived, and their children too.
Importantly, we consider sperm health too, where relevant, given up to 50% of infertility involves a male factor (yet it's often overlooked). Acupuncture, combined with herbs, supplements, and lifestyle changes, can meaningfully improve sperm count, quality, and hormone balance — often within just a few months. We provide take-home sperm collection kits and can help connect you with our partner fertility clinics to get testing underway.
What to expect during your first treatment
Your first visit to our preconception acupuncture San Diego clinic will look much the same, no matter which path you're on — natural conception, IVF, or egg freezing.
You'll complete a detailed questionnaire covering your health and reproductive history, menstrual cycle, supplements, and any fertility testing you've had. We’ll talk through this together during a 20–30 minute consultation, before your first acupuncture treatment that same day.
While you rest on the table, we’ll build your personalized treatment plan — combining an Eastern and Western diagnosis, nutrition and supplement recommendations, and additional labs as needed.
From there, treatment is tailored to your path, whether that's supporting an IVF or egg freezing cycle, or tracking your ovulation each month if conceiving naturally.

Frequently asked questions

Research suggests it can help. One clinical trial found women receiving acupuncture alongside lifestyle changes conceived in about half the time of those making lifestyle changes alone, and reported significantly greater improvements in fertility awareness and overall wellbeing. While we can't guarantee outcomes, at our preconception support San Diego clinic, we take a whole-body approach to give you the best possible foundation.
-
We recommend beginning treatment at our preconception acupuncture San Diego clinic a few months before you start trying. This gives your body time to strengthen and prepare, whatever "preparing" looks like for you. That said, it's never too late to start, and we're happy to support you wherever you're at in your journey.
-
Weekly treatment is often recommended, especially in the months leading up to trying. But there isn’t a “magic number” of sessions — it depends on your individual circumstances and goals. We'll recommend a treatment plan and frequency after discussing your health history in your first appointment.
-
This varies from person to person. Some patients notice improvements in their cycle or ovulation within a few months, while others benefit from longer-term, consistent treatment. We'll talk through realistic timeframes together based on your individual circumstances.
