Acupuncture to improve egg quality, San Diego
Been told there's “nothing you can do” about your egg quality? We take a more holistic view. Our San Diego clinic offers acupuncture to improve egg quality, gently supporting your body to develop healthy follicles for successful pregnancy naturally or via IVF.
We can help if you are:
In your late 30s or early 40s and wanting to start or add to your family.
Being told your egg quality or quantity is low and you have no options for improvement.
Struggling with diminished ovarian reserve — low AMH or elevated FSH.
Navigating poor embryo quality, previous poor fertilization, or recurrent IVF failure.
Considering donor eggs, but wondering if there are other options first.
Wanting evidence-informed guidance that’s realistic, without false hope.
How we use acupuncture to improve egg quality
-

Increases ovarian blood flow
By supporting blood flow to the ovaries, acupuncture helps deliver nutrients and hormones more efficiently to developing follicles, right when they need it to support maturing eggs.
-

Boosts cellular energy
Acupuncture increases mitochondrial activity in growing follicles by improving oxygenation and reducing inflammation — giving developing eggs the energy they need to mature well.
-

Reduces stress and cortisol
High cortisol and systemic stress can impair reproductive hormone signaling. Acupuncture helps calm the nervous system, creating a more supportive environment for healthy egg development.
A gentle yet powerful way to improve the quality of each available egg
Egg quantity and egg quality are two different things. While we can't increase the number of eggs you have, research shows acupuncture and Chinese medicine can support ovarian function and the development of healthy, high-quality eggs and embryos. By supporting the environment in which your eggs mature, our goal is to give each developing egg — and each cycle — the strongest possible chance of creating a healthy embryo.
Kind Words
Supporting the health of generations to come
Many patients arrive at our door feeling heartbroken and hopeless, after being told they are out of options. But lab measurements and numbers only tell one part of your story. While Western medicine tests are often essential in determining treatment options and outcomes, they do not dictate your reproductive potential.
In our San Diego clinic, we integrate Eastern and Western perspectives to offer a more holistic, supportive approach to fertility care. Working alongside your Western medicine team as needed, we focus on improving the environment in which eggs develop over the 90-120 day maturation period.
Our approach to acupuncture to improve egg quality is multifactorial, going beyond just acupuncture and supplements to also address nutrition, sleep, environmental toxins, inflammation, autoimmune conditions and nervous system regulation — all of which play a role during this crucial window. Research shows that acupuncture and holistic lifestyle support during this time can positively affect your future eggs.
A key part of our work is considering the health of your future child, and generations beyond them.
The quality of the egg (and sperm) we're supporting today doesn't only shape this pregnancy, but the lifelong health of the child conceived, and their potential future children, too. However your journey to pregnancy unfolds, we believe this kind of care matters for you, and for those who come after.
What to expect during acupuncture for egg quality
Your initial visit starts with a health history and fertility evaluation, including a complete hormone panel, thyroid function tests, and checks of your micronutrient levels, vitamin D, and inflammatory markers. We may also order additional lab checks, to help build your personalized treatment plan.
From there, acupuncture to improve egg quality focuses on calming your nervous system out of fight-or-flight, supporting hormone signaling and blood flow to the ovaries, and strengthening the brain-ovary connection.
Alongside acupuncture, we'll guide you on nutrition and foods to help support healthy egg development, sleep, rest and exercise, and where helpful, supplements or herbs.
Follow-up sessions build on this foundation, adjusting as needed to support you consistently through the 90–120 day follicle maturation window.

Frequently asked questions
-
While acupuncture can't increase the number of eggs you have, research shows it can help support the health and quality of the eggs still maturing — improving blood flow to the ovaries, supporting hormone signaling, and helping calm the nervous system during the follicle maturation window.
-
Yes. We take a multifactorial approach that goes beyond acupuncture alone, also addressing nutrition, sleep, inflammation, and nervous system regulation — all of which play a role in follicle development. Many patients come to us after being told there's "nothing else they can do," but research shows that holistic support during this crucial window can play a key role in healthy egg development.
-
A combination of consistent acupuncture to improve egg quality, good sleep, stress reduction, and nutrient-rich foods can all support healthy follicle development. We also check relevant labs, such as thyroid function, hormone levels, micronutrients, Vitamin D, and inflammatory markers, and can recommend supplements or herbs tailored to your needs.

Ovarian reserve refers to the current supply of eggs in your ovaries, and is closely linked to reproductive potential. Generally, a higher reserve means a larger pool of eggs to recruit from each cycle.
We are born with all the eggs we’ll ever have. As we age, this supply naturally declines, reducing fertility until all of the eggs are depleted at menopause. Markers such as low Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) or elevated Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) can indicate a lower ovarian reserve. It's important to remember, though, that ovarian reserve reflects egg quantity, not necessarily egg quality.
For more information, see our Ovarian Reserve and Egg Quality blog article.

Follicles are the fluid-filled sacs in your ovaries that house and nurture immature eggs. Each month, a group of ovarian follicles begins growing, though usually only one matures fully to release an egg at ovulation. Supporting the health of that whole group — not just the one that matures — is part of creating the best possible environment for a healthy egg.
-
Each egg takes 90–120 days to mature, from an immature follicle through to ovulation. Whatever happens during this window can influence the quality of that egg — which is why we focus treatment on this specific timeframe.
-
No. While ovarian reserve (egg quantity) naturally declines with age, quantity and quality are two different things — age doesn't automatically mean poor egg quality. We have extensive experience supporting women over 40 and those with diminished ovarian reserve, focusing on what can still be done to support the eggs you have. As a result of this work, we are seeing more and more women in their early 40s having success with both natural conception and IVF.
